This maternity session was in February 2020, before coronavirus hit the state of California. I was so excited to do this shoot for my friend, Christina, she decided to do two outfit changes. One outfit was a pink dress because she was having a girl and the other outfit was a white strapless maternity dress with a split front. The best thing about a beach maternity shoot is you can do it barefoot!

Following this maternity photoshoot, I was scheduled to document her birth story; however, due to COVID-19, hospitals had become overcrowded and expecting mothers were only allowed to have one guest with them.

The Beach

Christina needed some help choosing a nice beach that wasn’t overly populated so I recommended the El Matador beach in Malibu, California. I didn’t choose this beach just because it was the least populated (afterall, we were meeting at 9am), but because it had a collection of caves and photogenic rock formations. This beach is a natural beauty. The hidden steep staircase could be a little challenging, but with some guidance as well as support, we safely made it down one step at a time.

The caves along with the low tide allowed us to get some good shots of Christina and her baby bump from different angles that highlighted all of her pregnancy glow.
